A “Spectacular, Spectacular” 21st Birthday party

On Friday 15th June 2018, a birthday party inspired by the Baz Luhrmann red curtain trilogy was brought to life by Liz + Zie events. From a neon sign filled entranceway, to a disco ball lit reception, and a grand dining room framed by a sequin Coca Cola sign, One Marylebone was transformed by Liz + Zie, Bespoke, In Water Flowers and One Dining.

Having started the creative process for this event in March, the theming, styling and theatrics were of the upmost importance to our client from the outset. We love nothing more than playing around with new ideas and being creative with our menus, so were thrilled by the challenge. We may be biased, but food and drink is definitely one of the main things that guests remember long after the party is over, and our guests were treated to elements of Romeo & Juliet, Moulin Rouge and Strictly Ballroom from the cocktail reception on arrival right through to the decadent dessert, with plenty of theatrics displayed in between.
Understanding our clients love of art and craft within their design plans, created a wonderful collaborative process to bring these three very different companies together to create a night that Baz Luhrmann himself would have been proud of.

Creative cocktails

Inspired by the trilogy, we created 3 bespoke cocktails for this event to satisfy a range of tastes and compliment the different movies that this event took inspiration from.
Lady Marmalade
Portobello Road Gin is shaken firmly with Saville orange marmalade, cold pressed citrus, and rosemary cordial
The Green Fairy
White rum acts as the base to a splash of absinthe, honeysuckle liqueur, cold pressed lime juice, and honey
Poison on his lips
A green concoction of honeydew melon, fresh kiwi, vodka and apple
Served in individual glass bottles with labels designed to represent the 3 films, all served with eco-straws of course.

Bespoke Menu

Set in Australia, our starter began with our fresh cured salmon and crab salad with tequila marinated watermelon. This was coupled with a mini margarita shot, served to each guest by our bartenders in their Romeo & Juliet inspired Hawaiian shirts.

Moving onto the main course, the guests received a twist on our traditional duck two ways, appropriately called “Canard Marmalade”. Our vegetarians received a delicious sweet potato and black bean Cacarola with polenta fries, served in a mini casserole dish.

For the grand finale, we served our twist on the Australian candy “Cherry Ripe”, featuring a Valrhona chocolate cigar complete with ash, served on a smoking plate. Framing this, was a delicious sour cherry sorbet and a scattering of Malibu bon bons.

Table styling

Featuring the oh so trendy new indigo Urbane linen range, each place setting boasted gold cutlery with matching gold goblets. The menus, designed by Liz + Zie, represented a theatre stage which revealed the menu as they opened up the red curtains. In Water flowers created stunning table centres which incorporated the clients love for artistry, complementing Bespoke’s incredible washing line which emerged from the 6ft gold central bar and acted as the centrepiece for the whole space.
